Find Out if an SEO is Lying in Five Steps

I've had my fair share of run-ins with unethical car repair shops but a recent experience made me realize that there's an analogy to be drawn between shady SEO salesmen and shady auto mechanics.
To test this I simply copied an article from eHow titled, "How to Tell if a Mechanic is Lying" and made a few minor adjustments. As you will see, there were not many adjustments to make and that's what I found really interesting. So here are five steps you can take to find out if your SEO is lying to you.
- Simply ask if the work that needs to be done can wait. If the
mechanicSEO says that it is not an emergency, it is alright to hold off on getting it done. This is not to say that you should neglect gettingrepairsyour website optimized, but there is nothing wrong with putting unnecessary work off. - Ask your
mechanicSEO to show you the problem. For instance, yourmechanicSEO tells you that you neednew rear brake padsbetter rankings. But when it is time to show you, you realize that they arenot nearly as worn as he saidreferring to terms for which nobody ever actually searches. In fact, theyyour rankings are not bad, compared to the front brake padswhen you check them for the words and phrases your prospects are actually using to find businesses like yours. If you are not having any problems withbraking when you driveyour prospects finding your website, there is a possibility that yourmechanicSEO is lying. - Get a second opinion, if you
drive into the auto shopcontact an SEO company and you do not trust themechanicSEO. People get second opinions for doctors and dentists. So why notleave your mechanics shopfind another SEO company and askanotherthem who is equally, if not more qualified. - Trust that your
mechanicSEO is lying, if every time you get yourcar servicedwebsite audited, they come back with a laundry list of other, unexpected issues. Unless yourcarwebsite waspre-owned or very oldworked on by another SEO company since the last time this one worked on it, there is a possibility yourmechanicSEO is lying. - Acquaint yourself with the basic
car servicingsearch engine optimization recommendations according toyour car mileageleading SEO bloggers. You can do this by going online and printing out a standardcar servicingSEO checklist. This is important information to know, especially if yourmechanicSEO says you needan oil changea site redesign or newtirescontent and you know that he/she is lying because you arenot due for an oil changemeeting all the recommendations of the checklist and you havea decent amount of tread on your tiresunique and relevant content on your site already.
I just figured out what my next career move is going to be. An SEO mechanic. oh yeah. Anyway. I like number 3. But SEO’s cut from a different cloth won’t ever agree on strategy. Maybe the second opinion sucks and lies about the current SEO work? Sorry I don’t trust SEO’s I don’t know. It’s like the wild wild west out there (the internet) and us SEO’s are cowboys, free able to go wherever we want and Google is the Sheriff. Ooooh how I hate the Sheriff.
So true, and only a few edits to make it apply! You should see some of the stuff that passes for “SEO” that comes through my inbox. My favorite are the “free” audits or webinar reviews. Fun to smack-down people that don’t know what the f$#@ they’re saying. LOL!
“oh, really? I don’t rank for that one phrase and it’s killing business unless I buy 1000’s of doorway pages? Hmm, where did all these visitors come from then?!”
Haha or how about, “I like you site but why it not ranking?? We can make you site bigger and better with content is king.” I have scripts that can write better than that!
Number 3 just tells everything, don’t trust anyone especialy online! Number 5 is very tricky, there is a lot of blablabla on the web about SEO by people who don’t know anything about the subject …
